About New Hong Kong Restaurant
Cantonese and Szechuan Cuisine
Located at 5042 Valley Ln, Streamwood, IL 60107, New Hong Kong Restaurant operates as a chinese restaurant serving Streamwood in Illinois. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.
The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. The most common schedule is 11 am–8 pm. It is closed on Monday. I don’t come across many Lao-owned Chinese restaurants, but I always get super intrigued when I discover one (especially in my part of the Midwest)! The workers here at New Hong Kong Restaurant are very friendly and while the mapo tofu and Vietnamese iced coffee aren’t the bomb, the Isan sausages (spicy and non-spicy) and Singapore-style noodles are the bomb! I want to note I’m describing everything I ordered from the perspective of someone whose grown up eating Chinese food (as my mom’s side comes from Sichuan Province and my maternal grandpa and mom mainly cook Sichuanese food) and someone who regularly cooks Sichuanese, and Cantonese, and Lao food at home often (as my dad’s side is both Lao and Chinese (from Guangdong Province)). The mapo tofu doesn’t use silken tofu, instead using firm tofu. The sauce also does not feel too fresh and lacks certain spices, reminding me of the taste of the Lee Kum Kee sauce (which I’ve bought and used in a few times in the past to save time when cooking this dish). The meat has a nice texture and flavor, so that’s a redeeming factor. I ordered the lunch portion of this, so it came with an appetizer, egg drop soup, and chicken fried rice. I chose

Food is delicious and the portions definitely worth their prices, most places charge the same for less. Crab Rangoon’s are incredible and the potstickers have a fluffiness too it, different texture than what I’m used to; but that’s not bad.

I’m Asian of Chinese descent. The other day, a friend invited me to a birthday party. I arrived after everyone had already ordered, but once I got to try the food, I could really tell how much care the restaurant puts into both the flavors and the quality of the ingredients. I was truly impressed. If I get the chance, I’ll definitely bring my family here again — and for my mom’s birthday this year, this place will be the first option that comes to mind.

Good spot for takeout. Overall food and service is good. Food is always ready timely and fresh. My only issue is that they pack their Mongolian beef with mushrooms. I’ve never seen this at any other restaurant and was not really a fan of the mushrooms in a Mongolian dish. Their crab Rangoon, egg rolls and friend rice are great. I’m still trying to find my favorite main dish. The sesame chicken was okay.
